Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii
The Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii was established in November 1995 by His Holiness the late Pope Shenouda III, to shepherd the growing Coptic congregations of the western United States. Holy Nativity Church in Riverside is one of the parishes of this diocese.
Our Shepherd
The diocese is shepherded by His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion, who was consecrated its first bishop in 1995. Under his fatherly care the diocese has grown to serve tens of thousands of faithful through its parishes, missions, monasteries, schools, and ministries across Southern California and Hawaii.
Life of the Diocese
The diocese oversees the liturgical, pastoral, and educational life of its parishes: the formation of clergy and servants, youth and college ministry, Christian education, and works of mercy. It also fosters the ancient heritage of the Coptic Church — her hymns, her language, and her iconography — in the lands of immigration.
